Dear Signal [2025-Sep-18]
Date: March 2025
Format: Manga, Yaoi
Original Release: 2018
Volumes: 1 [all]
Assessment:
A fairly standard childhood best friends to lovers yaoi, with the gimmick of a condition which makes heart shaped spots appear on your body when you're in love, which is used to decent effect. There is very little to say about this other than that it's pretty good and very cute. Both main characters are sweet and have believable communication issues, and there's some light drama that's only a little bit contrived. Totally decent but I've seen it done better and in more depth elsewhere.
Art:
Generally servicable but ocassionally great. There's a surprising amount of texture, from rendered shadows to patterened shirts. A few panels with really good and evocative lighting, but most are plain. The expressions are a bit flat and samey too, and a lot of the posing is functional at best, but when the story calls for big emotional moments it does get more expressive. I want to give particular praise to the cover, which is extremely squishy and cute. I wish the rest of the manga looked that soft.
