Osananajimi ja Gaman Dekinai [2025-Oct-24]
Date: August 2025
Format: Manga, Yaoi
Original Release: 2022
Volumes: 1
Assessment:
Probably the best version of the "childhood best friends to lovers" trope I've read, extremely cute and dodges many of the typical pitfalls. It follows two boys who in living together at university are forced to confront the feelings they have for one another. The development of the relationship is sweet and realistic, with an establised gay character lending advice (which I feel like you never see in these stories). I'm also very glad that the story does not end at the first kiss, nor even the first time they sleep together - it's really nice getting to see how they develop past those typical end-points. Only the first 2 volumes are translated so far, but I really hope I can finish this one day.
Art:
Immediately stood out to me as solid, with plentiful use of gray tones to create depth, and a strong mixture of compositions framing characters and scenes from expressive angles. The composition is really my favourite part, there's some very good low angles and close-ups, it almost feels like the storyboarding you'd see in a movie. The characters are all very cute, drawn consistently with good anatomy, but the art is unafraid to go off model every now and then to add expression. It would be better without the censorship, but you get so much intimacy from the body language, faces, and writing during the sex scenes that it really doesn't matter.
